MEET VIGO
Peruvian Chef, Culinary Storyteller and Founder of Lima’s Walking Chef
I’m Víctor Hugo Urteaga, although most people call me Vigo. I’m a Peruvian chef with more than 16 years of professional experience and a researcher of Lima’s criollo culinary heritage.
My relationship with food began at home, surrounded by family gatherings, shared recipes and stories passed down through generations. Later, my work in professional kitchens taught me that every dish is more than a combination of ingredients: it reflects a territory, a historical moment and the people who keep its traditions alive.
Over the years, my curiosity led me beyond the kitchen and into the history of Lima. I began exploring its markets, plazas, convents, traditional businesses and neighborhoods, discovering how Indigenous, European, African and Asian influences helped shape the city’s culinary identity.

FROM THE KITCHEN TO THE STREETS OF LIMA
Through Vigo’s Taste Travels, I create food and cultural experiences built around research, genuine hospitality and meaningful encounters.
Lima’s Walking Chef is my signature series of chef-led walking experiences. Each route invites visitors to discover Lima through its flavors, stories and living heritage—not simply as spectators, but as curious travelers who want to understand the city more deeply.
Experiences may be adapted for food lovers, cultural travelers, chefs, students and professionals looking for a more specialized perspective.
